The Loving Kindness of Mysticism

The Loving Kindness of Mysticism

All selfishness, cruelty, and evil stem from the mistaken belief that everything exists separately from everything else.

The One is Undifferentiated

If everything is the same One thing then all distinctions and separations melt away. In this larger identity we are undifferentiated and we become each other. When I reference others I do not just mean human others for there is no anthropocentric bias in Mysticism. In the context of the One the pig in the slaughterhouse is just as important as you yourself are. The suffering of each facet of the whole becomes the suffering of the whole.

The Mystical theory of ethics holds it is in our perceived separateness that egoism is born and that it is egoism which is the source of all hatred, cruelty, and malice. It is further suggested that the Unitive experience infiltrates even the most hardenened sceptics and that this is the source of all ethical values.

The Earth and her Forms

We are One and because we are One we have implied responsibilities to all things and all forms. What the western mind perceives as inanimate the Mystic consciousness observes as alive and vibrant. The rivers, the seas, the land, and every life is an equal facet of the One. In the Unitive Experience activities that deliberately and intentionally harm it are unthinkable.
