On October 15th each year Spain celebrates the feast day of Saint Teresa de Avila. In the Interior Castle she describes the seven stages of union with God. Union with God is a common characteristic of Christian Mystic experiences.

Union is as if in a room there were two large windows through which the light streamed in, it enters in different places but becomes One.
(In union) There is a self-forgetfulness which is so complete that it seems as though the soul no longer existed.
(After union) the soul is like a beautiful butterfly. It doesn't even recognise itself. It's old self has died and it is completely made new
