Saying 101: My True Mother Gave Me Life
Whoever does not hate father and mother as I do cannot be my disciple; whoever does not love father and mother as I do cannot be my disciple. My earthly mother gave me a body, but my true mother gave me life.
Commentary
The contradiction is deliberate: two sets of parents, so hatred and love are owed to different ones. “My true mother” is most likely the Spirit, feminine in Semitic languages.
